One shy of record count on June 16; new death reported, for total of 202

PORTLAND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- COVID-19 has claimed one more life in Oregon, raising the state’s death toll to 202, along with a near-record 277 new cases, pushing the total past 8,000, the Oregon Health Authority reported Saturday.

Oregon Health Authority reported 277 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 as of 12:01 a.m. Saturday, bringing the state total to 8,094 cases, along with 219,529 negative results.

The 277 cases is one shy of the daily record 278 cases reported on June 16. There have been 1,349 cases in the past week, according to HA figures

The new cases reported Saturday are in the following counties: Benton (2), Clackamas (16), Columbia (1), Coos (1), Crook (1), Deschutes (3), Jefferson (3), Josephine (2), Lake (1), Lane (14), Lincoln (2), Linn (4), Malheur (12), Marion (32), Morrow (5), Multnomah (59), Polk (2), Umatilla (56), Union (11), Wasco (2), Washington (44), Yamhill (4).

See table below for total cases, deaths and negative tests by county.

Oregon’s 202nd COVID-19 death is an 84-year-old man in Multnomah County who became symptomatic on June 21, after close contact with a confirmed case, and died on June 22. His place of death is being confirmed. He had underlying medical conditions.

Correction: On Friday, OHA erroneously reported that Oregon’s 202nd COVID-19 death was a woman who tested positive on June 22. We regret the error. The total number of COVID-19 deaths in Oregon is 202.

Note:

  • One case previously reported in Jackson County was determined to not to be a case; county case counts have been adjusted to reflect this change.

  1. it was a fool’s errand to argue with the hoax gang
whenever a conversation came up and they expressed their misinformed convictions
    I just said , sorry , you’re wrong
but I won’t argue with you
because eventually more and more deaths will happen
and eventually you will wear a mask and willingly go through the second
or third quarantine because you value your life
But , i would add, how many americans are going to
    die un necessarily
    until you finally understand
    until you finally get it

there’s only one boss right now and she owns us.
    until the idiots understand that
until the morons figure it out
until you stop whining about your so called freedom

We serve the queen. Covid-19 is in charge. Do you have what it takes to kill her dead?

    Wake the heck up america.

the slogan needs to be updated to live free AND die

  2. Come on, Pendleton. Do better.
    .
During this whole pandemic the dumbest thing the CDC did was to tell Americans that wearing a mask would protect everyone else. Americans couldn’t care less about everyone else! They had to know this sales pitch would never work. If the CDC had said “if you wear a mask you’ll save yourself and everyone else will die a horrible death” then we wouldn’t even be talking about Covid-19 any more, we’d be having fun and traveling around like everyone in Europe is.

    1. Oh yes, the CDC changing a few words would have totally eradicated covid.

Americans are smart enough (well some) to look at the data and realize the virus isn’t that bad unless you are 65 or older and those people can take care of themselves. You don’t need affect the rest of the population for one group……oh wait I guess that’s what the left is all about…. pandering to every small group.

      1. I was making a point, that trump turned a world-wide viral pandemic into a political weapon to divide us because he doesn’t care if any of us die as long as he gets re-elected. And his cult members would only wear a mask if it was to save their own lives, the thought of doing it for someone else’s benefit would never cross their (your) mind.
        .
Just so you know, the pandemic is worse now than it ever has been. Prior to last week the highest daily new cases was 36.4k in mid-April, now every day is higher than that and we just hit 45.3k new cases. Texas and Florida just closed down bars again! Contrary to the cool breeze FOX has been blowing up your skirt, the S has HTF in the entire sun-belt and I expect a red state bailout any day now. Don’t all those red states know this is going to hurt Trump? Why do they hate America?
        .
        some round numbers:
        10 million cases world wide
        500k dead world wide
        2.5 million cases US
        125k dead US
…and you think Americans are so dumb they’ll look at this and think “oh cool, things aren’t that bad”? Right now seems like a perfect time for trump to ask the SCOTUS to take away Obamacare, there’s another 11 million more people that wont vote for him.

      2. If it’s just deaths that you’re looking at and it’s not you, people you know, or people you care about that are dead, then your belief that the virus “isn’t bad” may have some validity from your perspective. However it’s a bit simplistic to overlook the 277 others that are identified as being infected, the unnecessary burden on the medical community from lack of societal responsibility, the forced quarantines, the people now out of work because they’re infected (not all people can work from home), and the hit on the economy by having 277 fewer customers. With any luck you’ll reach 65 and can then join the “bad” group and be ignored by the likes of you (it might change your selfish and spoiled attitude). In the meantime, enjoy your day.

    2. If you truly believe that then MOVE to China. Or Better yet, MOVE to North Korea or even Venezuela. You love socialism so much then move where you can have it. AMERICA WILL NEVER BE A SOCIALIST COUNTRY! Get over yourself already. It is you and those like you that truly couldn’t care less about other people. You sit there at you computer keyboard and prove that with every key stroke.

      1. I actually spent a month in China. It was weird. And fun.
Yell all you want, but a blue wave is going to wash over this country in a couple months, and then we’ll have to get to work fixing the economy and the health care system and the environment and police reform and everything else your side has broken. Again. Because republicans can’t lead. Every single time y’all get elected the country falls apart, and then Dems get elected and we fix it. Bush, deficit. Clinton, surplus. W, economic meltdown. Obama, fixed it. Trump, economic meltdown while golfing. Biden, will fix it.

  3. Currently predicting between 1,000 and 5,000 cases per day by the end of July seems unreasonable. At the rate of 4,250 tests per day it will take 1,000 days to test everybody. And the test won’t indicate if a person already had it and recovered, or if they will become infected after the testing. Incomplete, partial, selected statistics are misleading.
example: Central Oregon has about the same area as Massachusetts, with about 1/28 the population. Massachusetts has 108,000 cases and 8,000 deaths.
1/28 of those figures would be about 3,860 cases and 286 deaths.
Central Oregon has so far experienced 266 cases and -0- deaths.

Could anybody have predicted this disparity? I doubt it. The figures vary tremendously from place to place. Spain has 400% the death rate of Portugal, sharing the same geography, climate, and lifestyle; yet there is this great disparity.

Here is what I (tentatively) predict: the Willamette Valley will see a spike in cases and hospitalizations, and there will be a few other sporadic outbreaks, but the majority of Oregon counties will not see significant increases in Covid-19 infections, even if it takes a year or longer for it to fade away.

Again, lucky to live out here in the high desert, the Siskiyous, the coast, the mountains, beautiful wonderful Oregon.

    1. Cases mean nothing. They are manipulated numbers. And the testing is inaccurate. The CDC has said so themselves. Some tested positive who were actually negative and some negative who were positive. This has been a manipulation for political purposes by Democretin Party. But you go ahead lemming. Follow them off the cliff.

  4. Oh the Doom and Gloom! The more you test, the more that will come back positive. That isn’t anything to watch or worry about! What you should be watching and worrying about, is the number that are hospitalized and the number on ventilators. Right now, the numbers hospitalized in critical care is minimal and there are 27 on ventilator in Oregon. These numbers are the total throughout the pandemic . . .

The last set of numbers are the numbers that should be pushed and watched. The number that test positive mean they have either already had it or been in contact with it, not necessarily that they have it.

      1. Throw away your fire extinguishers and you won’t have to worry about your house burning down as well.
        ________________________

On the other hand, if you’re obese or diabetic, you may want to hang on to your scale. My point was . . . yes, numbers of positive tests are going up, but hospitalizations and deaths are not climbing nearly as fast as positive tests. You’re having panic attacks from the media insinuating that with the climbing numbers of positives, those being hospitalized and or dying is matching the climb of the positive tests . . . and they aren’t. In actuality, the rate of hospitalization and death is decreasing with every increase in positive cases.
        _________________________

Why are the numbers of people being hospitalized or dying going through the roof in the cities with all the rioting? Yes, some of those protesting/rioting are wearing masks, but the majority are not. As a matter of fact, their numbers are NOT climbing at anything near the forecasted rates based on the number of people not social distancing . . . What’s your explanation?

        1. Very Very bad analogy. Fear mongering. The CDC has stated that there are likely 10 times the amount of positive cases than what is tested. Which brings your argument to a stand still. Because if there are 10 times more positive case then that makes it 10 times less deaths by percentages. Like somewhere are 0.0000013% death rate. Then you subtract the manipulated numbers and deaths that were intentionally caused be orders of Democretin Governors like Cuomo from New York and you have even less deaths by percentage. 43% of all Covid deaths were i nursing homes. A direct result of Gubernatorial Executive Orders by Democretin Governors. Yet you still support the theory that this was not an intentional act be the Democretin paty colluding with China and the Wuhon lab

        2. Um, you are just making crap up because it sounds good ? Didnt see any rioting in florida, arizona or texas, did you? Time to give up on “its just a flu” trump lie.

    1. You conveniently overlook the impacts on the hospitals from those “few” patients: the need for isolation, medication, extra staff, equipment and PPE costs, reduced facility capacity for other patients, etc. And that comes back at you and everyone else through limited medical help and insurance rates (assuming, of course, that you’re smart enough to have it).
