‘I feel a call of duty’: Bend resident seeking donations he’ll bring to North Carolina for Helene victims

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Bend resident Schuyler Morgan and his family moved to Bend in April, but after witnessing the devastation of Hurricane Helene, he’s decided to return home to North Carolina, to help recovery efforts in the aftermath.

"I feel a call of duty, and I want to serve my community," Morgan said Friday

Morgan grew up in Fletcher, North Carolina, one of the regions severely impacted by Hurricane Helene.

"Water services are down, power is still being restored, and grocery stores are running thin on supplies, water included." he said.

Next week, he’ll be driving a trailer to North Carolina to deliver essential supplies, with a focus on water containers and generators for affected communities. He’s also seeking items such as water, antifungal creams, dry ready-to-eat food, hand sanitizer and gas cans.

Morgan has organized a donation drive to gather supplies for the hurricane victims at the main offices of The Reserves at Pilot Butte. Those interested in donating can stop by from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Morgan plans to stay in North Carolina for the winter, to help rebuild the community. As a licensed journeyman electrician, he'll be joining forces with A-American Electric to carry out residential repairs.
