Tropical Storm Oscar heads toward the Bahamas after dumping rains on eastern Cuba
HAVANA (AP) — Tropical Storm Oscar is heading toward the Bahamas after dumping heavy rain across eastern Cuba. Its maximum sustained winds were blowing at 40 mph late Monday as Oscar moved north-northeast at 8 mph. U.S. forecasters said the storm was about 105 miles south of Long Island, Bahamas. A tropical storm warning was in effect for the central and southeastern Bahamas. Oscar was a Category 1 hurricane with winds of 75 mph when it made landfall in eastern Cuba on Sunday evening. Flooding in low-lying areas was reported and at least six deaths.
