WARM SPRINGS, Ore. (KTVZ) – A semi-truck jackknifed on U.S. Highway 26 on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation Tuesday morning, closing 25-mile stretch of the route for several hours and prompting ODOT to urge using alternate routes.

The crash occurred around 6:15 a.m. and the highway remained closed until midday.

ODOT Region 4 Public Information Officer Kacey Davey said the highway was closed between Mount Hood and Warm Springs, from the junction with state Highway 216 at milepost 72 to milepost 97 near County Line Road.

During the closure, eastbound traffic was urged to use OR 216 to U.S. Highway 197 and Highway 97. Westbound traffic can stay going north on U.S. 97 in Madras to highways 196 and 216. Kacey noted that truck traffic is restricted on U.S. 197 in Maupin. Trucks were urged to use Interstate 84 and U.S. Highway 97 as alternate routes.
