Former Prineville man jailed in Fla., accused of fatally strangling girlfriend
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (KTVZ) -- A former Prineville man charged with strangling his former girlfriend last year in Crook County now faces charges of fatally strangling his current girlfriend in Florida.
Nathan White, 34, was booked into the Volusia County, Fla., Jail a week ago and remains held without bail on a second-degree murder charge.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports police believe he strangled Darcie Mistal, 45, also a former Prineville resident, who police said may have used a phone charging cord to kill her.
Tbe police report said the pair had been staying at a home in Daytona Beach for about three weeks.
A roommate told police the pair went into their bedroom the evening of Monday, April 20 and that White the next morning told him Mistal was not awake and it "looks like she tried to hang herself." The roommate said he went in and saw the woman but she did not have anything around her neck.
White said he and Mistal had used crack and meth the night before. Police said White had a cell phone and five charging cords in his possession.
In last year's case in Crook County, Prineville police said White was accused of using a copper wire to strangle his girlfriend at the time, who survived. White was convicted of interfering with making a police report, but strangulation and third-degree theft charges were dismissed. He was given a 30-day jail term and 18 months probation.
He also pleaded guilty to meth possession in the fall and got a 60-day jail term.
