Caleb and Dahnte Cegers trials delayed yet again; victim Taylor Wyss’s family enraged by more delays

Full audio statement from close family friend of Taylor Wyss

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- After having their respective trials delayed, Dahnte and Caleb Cegers will be back in court on Tuesday, Jan. 21 to determine when jury trials will take place for their alleged actions the night Taylor Wyss was fatally shot.

The delays, which have now lasted years, continue to enrage Wyss's family and friends.

Caleb Cegers is accused of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Redmond resident Taylor Wyss. The incident happened outside of Duda's Billiards Bar in downtown Bend in August of 2023.

At Caleb Cegers' request, a judge has delayed the jury trial several times, including just this month.

Dahnte Cegers is accused of hindering prosecution by fleeing the scene with his brother, the night Taylor Wyss was shot and killed. A nationwide manhunt led to the arrest of both brothers near Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Dahnte is currently out on bail, while Caleb has been in the Deschutes County Jail since his arrest.

The family and friends of Wyss, a 33-year-old Mountain View High graduate, say they are devastated by the delays. One family friend told KTVZ News: "Disappointed, frustrated and exhausted. That's how we feel today."

While the family understand the delay decisions are up to a judge, and can be part of the prosecution process, the pain of preparing for a trial is nearly unbearable.

A close family friend said, "The mental and emotional exhaustion of preparing impact statements, preparing to relive the worst time in our lives. To hear about Taylor struggling for his life on the sidewalk in his final moments, preparing to be face to face with the person who shattered our whole world."

Trial dates for the brothers' alleged actions that night are set for on January 21st.

In Dahnte Cegers' case, there's also another trial readiness hearing scheduled for Feb. 11 and a one-day settlement conference is planned 10 days later, on Feb. 21, court records show
