Bend man charged with pulling a gun on another man before downtown rally; charged with menacing, DUII
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A Bend man says he had a gun pulled on him Sunday morning at Peace Corner in downtown Bend, an hour before a rally called to show support for Ukraine.
Bend Police told KTVZ News the suspect was arrested on several charges, including unlawful use of a weapon and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Early Sunday morning, a Bend man said he arrived an hour early to downtown Bend, carrying a Ukraine flag, for a rally to show support of Ukraine.
While there, he says a man approached him in a car. After getting into a verbal exchange, police said the suspect pulled a gun on the man before driving away.
The Bend man, who was granted anonymity by KTVZ News to speak freely about the incident, said:
"One car stopped at the stoplight, rolled his window down and was saying something. I couldn't hear whether it was support for negativity. so I got closer to the car. He chirped at me. I chirped back. Less than 20 words were exchanged, and then he pulled a gun. At that point, I backed up and called the police."
Bend Police tell KTVZ News they found the suspect's car at a liquor store on SW Century Drive.
The man was arrested for menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
