Bingham Fire closure order ends, reopening access to popular recreation areas

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Due to successful firefighting efforts and full containment, the Willamette National Forest has terminated an emergency closure order for the Bingham Fire, which was reported Sept. 30 on the Detroit Ranger District.

The Bingham Fire, located in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness east of Marion Forks, is approximately 199 acres and 100% contained. The termination of the closure order opens access to more than five recreation areas and three trails in the Detroit Ranger District.

Newly reopened roads include FSR 2255 and 2253. Recreation sites that are open include Marion Forks Day Use Area and Marion Forks Campground.

Trailheads and trails that are open include Bingham Ridge Trailhead and Trail #3421, Blue Lake Trail #3422, Grizzly Peak Trail #3428, Independence Rock Trailhead and Trail, Lake of the Woods Trail #3493, Marion Lake Trailhead and Trail #3436, Marion Mountain Trail #3435, Minto Mountain Trailhead, Pamelia Lake Trailhead and Trail #3439, and Pine Ridge Trailhead and Trail #3443.

Access to these areas expands hunting opportunities and opens miles of road and recreation areas. As fire recovery and repair crews are still active in the area, hunters are advised to review existing closure maps and stay out of closed areas for their own safety and the safety of fire crews and workers operating heavy equipment.
