BLM urges caution on public lands as Oregon fire season breaks records

OREGON (KTVZ) -- More than 2.5 million acres have already burned across Oregon during this record-setting fire season.

Right now, the Bureau of Land Management is urging people to use extra caution on public lands as wildfire restrictions remain in place across Oregon and Washington.

The BLM says restrictions vary by location and can include rules on ammunition, campfires, and required fire-safety equipment.

With hunting season approaching, officials are reminding hunters and other visitors to check local restrictions before heading out.

Anyone who starts a wildfire could face fines of up to $100,000, jail time, and the full cost of firefighting efforts.
