Bend Fire investigators could not determine cause of Thursday fire that destroyed travel trailer at Juniper Ridge

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – An unoccupied travel trailer went up in flames Thursday morning in the Juniper Ridge area north of Bend but was quickly extinguished by Bend Fire & Rescue crews, an official said.

The fire department and Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies responded around 8 a.m. to several reports of smoke coming from the area along the east side of Highway 97, north of Wiley Circle, Deputy Fire Marshal Cindy Kettering said.

Crews arrived to find the 24-foot travel trailer fully involved, but no extension to nearby trees and vegetation, Kettering said.

Two wildland interface engines were able to quickly knock down and put out the fire, which occurred on Bureau of Land Management property about 100 yards east of Highway 97 and north of the city hydro plant.

The trailer was unoccupied at the time of the fire, Kettering said, and there were no witnesses. The cause of the fire could not be determined.
