Still-slick roads prompt Jefferson County 509J schools to call another 2-hour delay after five days of closures
(Update: Jefferson County schools open two hours late)
MADRAS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Roads that were still icy in places prompted Jefferson County School District 509J to delay classes by two hours, but reopen schools after five straight school days of weather-related closures.
"Due to road conditions, all 509J schools will operate on a two-hour delay schedule today, January 24," the district said. "For your school’s specific start time, please go to https://www.jcsd.k12.or.us/inclement-weather-procedures/."
On Tuesday, the district first called a two-hour delay, then canceled classes for a fifth straight school day when conditions failed to improve in some areas.
"We hoped the two-hour delay would provide time for roads to improve. However, roads in outlying areas and parts of Highway 26 remain icy and dangerous. This means all after-school activities, including athletics, are canceled," the district said in Tuesday's update.
