Cloudy and periods of rain Saturday with some mountain snow, Sunday will see mainly mountain snow

KTVZ

Bend, Ore (KTVZ)— Rain, possibly mixed with a little snow, is expected to return to the region Saturday as a complex pattern continues to add moisture to the Pacific Northwest. The rain will be off and on and not widespread but keep the rain gear handy.

The temperatures this weekend will be well above freezing, reaching the low 50s, so rain will be the primary precipitation type. I say primary because we may see a bit of a wintry mix in the pre-dawn hours in southern and western Deschutes Counties.  Breezy to windy south winds are also possible, with gusts near 25 mph at times Saturday afternoon.  Snow levels will be around 5000 feet, just above the La Pine elevation, but close enough to get some wet snow possibly, timing of the snow is closer to sunset Saturday.

Sunday is still expected to be mild with highs in the upper 40s but there is more snow expected across the Cascades. The snow will be wet and heavy with moisture, but it will help with the base numbers that have been deteriorating with the recent mountain rain.  Mostly cloudy skies across the high desert as the precipitation gets squeezed out by the mountains.

Monday will be cooler and partly cloudy as we take a breather from the rainy and cloudy pattern. Highs reach the middle 40s under the mix of clouds and sunshine. The next round of rain and mountain snow is expected to arrive late Tuesday.

Tuesday starts out dry and cold with morning temperatures in the upper 20s on their way to the middle 40s. Clouds will be thickening up as the day moves along and snow across the Cascades develops in the late evening.  A cold front will cross the PacNW Tuesday evening and bring a robust amount of snow to the area. The snow may be heavy at times so the much needed “dump” of snow for the resorts may only be a few days away.

Across the high desert Wednesday, we are expecting to get a mix of rain and snow. The accumulation of snow is not nearly as robust as the mountains of course, but it may be time to dust off the shovel for a couple inches mixed with some rain off and on.

Snow lingers on the mountain tops Thursday, but will be ending. Next weekend is shaping up to be the beginning of a dry and chilly pattern.

Please, Stay safe.
