Sunny skies, warmer conditions and lingering smoke

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Warming pattern continues through the weekend as high pressure moves inland. The high pressure will not be the normal arching ridge, but more of an elongated nose of warmer air that migrates into Oregon. This feature will stall out across the Pacific Northwest and keep the temperatures in the 70s through next week.

The prescribed burn near Sisters will continue to push some smoke into the region, but the winds today will be arriving from the north-northeast. That means the smoke will be transported toward the Cascades as opposed to the Highway 97 area. Sisters will see poor air quality early tomorrow morning once again so if you live in Sisters or close by, prepare for more smoky conditions. The prescribed burns are in mop up mode, although there is still some smoke being generated.

Thursday will be mostly sunny and mild with high temperatures reaching the low 70s.  The normal high for this time of year is the low 60s so we will be well above that number.  This will be the coolest day for the next several days as the ridge takes over.

Friday will be slightly warmer with highs in the upper 70s under the ridge. This ridge will push up to Canada, but not very wide, so there will be an area of low pressure off the coast that seems to want to move inland.

Saturday the ridge digs in and we see a more traditional arcing feature that will keep the low off the coast. That low will soon become cut off from the jet stream but be close enough to provide some cloud cover and possibly a stray shower in Douglas and Klamath counties.  A few clouds will move north, but we should still hit the upper 70s under partly to mostly cloudy skies.

Sunday will also see a mix of clouds and sunshine as well as the warmer weather. Expect to see the upper 70s and possibly the low 80s as we push through the first weekend of May.

Monday has a chance for some rain to arrive, but it will be more of an isolated event.  This is worthy of a “mention” but not expected, at this time, to be anything more than some stray showers. Still seeing temps in the70s.

Tuesday and Wednesday will also be well above normal as highs reach the upper 70s both days under mostly to partly sunny skies.

Please, Stay safe.
