Bitter cold tonight, not as cold this week with wintry mix off and on

Another dangerously cold night ahead with the mercury in the thermometer dipping near zero once again. Not much of a warm up Monday as temps struggled to get to the teens. Snow on the ground reflecting most of the suns warming rays and the actual cold air mass in place are responsible for the bitter period.

Tuesday will see the mercury rise above freezing for the first time since Friday at 2:15 pm. High temps on Tuesday will be in the middle 30s. The temps will hover around the upper 20s most of the evening and overnight time frame as a mix of rain, snow and freezing rain inhibit travel and make for very slick roads, sidewalks, decks, and the like. Dense fog may develop as the rain mingles with the snow on the ground.

The mix of rain and snow, along with the possible fog, will continue Wednesday. Highs will be in the middle 40s and there will be some melting and runoff of the snow. The temps overnight into Thursday will be near freezing so some icy roads and overpasses are likely, especially in areas above 4000 ft. elevation.

Wintry mix of precipitation will be spotty from Thursday through Saturday, occurring mainly at night. Morning commutes will be impacted each day this week for a variety of reasons mentioned above. Moving forward, there is another round of rain and snow Sunday and Monday in the forecast.
