On and off wintry mix with warmer temperatures
UPDATE: Jefferson County School District is closed for the day.
Happy Thursday Central Oregon. This morning rain and freezing rain are expected in the lower elevations. Snow may be mixed in but that will likely be reserved for the mountains with snow levels quite high, early.
We do expect above average temperatures this afternoon which could create some light flooding as slush slowly melts into what are likely clogged storm drains. Secondary roads that haven’t been well cleared may be especially treacherous today. In addition to the wintry mix, pockets of fog and freezing fog are again possible and these conditions will likely affect your morning commutes and with the potential for more ice in Bend, Sisters, Redmond and Madras travel north along Highway 97 may become difficult again in time for your evening commute home as well.
There’s a Winter Storm Warning in North Central Oregon from 10am today until 4am Friday due to possible heavy mixed precipitation creating icy glaze and snow accumulations of 4-9 inches.
Wind will be out of the South in the 5-10mph and may peak a bit higher in some areas at times but will stay in that range until the early hours with stronger winds reserved for the Cascades. Highs will be a bit warmer than yesterday in the 30s and overnight lows will range in the 20s primarily.
