Warming into the weekend, rain likely Monday

A pleasant and dry pattern is expected to linger through the weekend as Central Oregon will warming each day. Highs will near 80 on Friday as a ridge of warm air arrives.

Saturday will be mild and dry as well, just not a warm. The highs will be in the middle 70s under mostly sunny skies.  Enjoy the dry pattern and make sure to hydrate if you are out and about. This is the first day of June, which is the beginning of the Meteorological Summer.  Meteorological summer is June, July, and August; the three warmest months of the year as defined by the Climate Prediction Center and NOAA. Meteorological seasons are based on annual temperature cycles and the calendar. The Astronomical summer is based on the relationship and position of the Earth and the Sun.

Sunday will start out with plenty of sunshine, then as the day moves along the skies will fill with clouds. The clouds will lower and thicken as the evening comes upon us and I expect to see some showers before the sun rises on Monday.

Monday will be much cooler with the rain and the clouds. The rain will be widespread and will be beneficial. The light and steady nature of the rain will be good for the region, soaking slowly into the soil.

On Thursdays the Drought Monitor is released by the Climate Prediction Center, and we have changed little since last week.  Approximately 46% of Deschutes County is in the “abnormally dry” category.  This is the lowest of the five possible categories.  This is unchanged from last week’s report.
