Rainy day today and Monday, minor flooding possible along with gusty wind
Today will be rainy and cloudy with temperatures only reaching the low to middle 60s. A cold front is expected to cross the region late tonight or early Monday. A rainy and windy scenario is likely ahead of the frontal passage so the rain will be widespread and the winds on the gusty side.
Gusts near 25 – 30 mph are expected to develop through the mountain passes today and tonight. If you are planning any travel through the passes, be prepared for some robust winds.
The other aspect to the forecast today will be the rain. Rain will be heavy along the crest of the Cascades and more robust on the west facing slopes. There is the potential for 1 – 2” of rain in the mountains by the time Monday morning arrives. The rain, along with the melting snow, may lead to rivers and creeks running fast and full.
The rainfall amounts in the High Desert are only expected to be about 0.25 to 0.5” but the runoff from the mountain rain will contribute to the possible flooding issues.
The rain will continue into the night and taper off on Monday morning. Please keep a watchful eye on any creeks and streams in your neighborhood. If you are planning any outdoor activities, be prepared for the rain and watch for riding waters.
