Above normal temperatures, breezy and dry

The fire danger increased over the weekend with the arrival of isolated storms. The lightning and gusty winds were unkind to the area as several new wildfires were generated and fanned quickly by the winds.  Currently the fires in Jefferson County continue to expand as firefighters continue to work to suppress the activity. This, along with the thousands of acres already burning has made for a rough start to the month with respect to fires.

Temperatures are not as hot as they were before the weekend and the skies are partly cloudy. The presence of a little atmospheric moisture is helpful to keeping the temps down as well as giving aid to fire suppression. The highs all week will hover around the 90° mark with very little variation.

Periods of sunshine and cloud cover will be the best way to define the days and clear and mild will define the night. Apart from the smoke in the region from regional fires, the area is experiencing a very warm, but nearly normal weather pattern.

Please stay safe and keep an eye on the smoke forecasts.   The winds are variable, in other words coming from various directions, so the shifts in the winds will either clear the skies of the smoke or increase it.  It is very important to adhere to the fire restrictions in place for all public lands in Central Oregon. No open flames, including charcoal briquette fires. Firefighting efforts are stretched really thin, any new fires will make matters worse. Let's not contribute to the already historic fire totals this season.
