Back to the 90s to close out August

KTVZ

Highs today will be back in the upper 80s and a few locations will hit the 90s. The last time we were in the 90s in Bend was August 11th when we topped out at 91.  We started the month in the triple digits and it looks like we will end the month in the middle 90s.

A large ridge of high pressure will arrive from the Eastern Pacific and drift over the Pacific Northwest this weekend. The result will be plenty of sunshine and well above normal temperatures each of the next few days.

Winds will not be much of a factor to start the long holiday weekend, but may increase as we push through Labor Day.  Highs on Saturday will be the hottest, reaching the upper 90s in Redmond and may even hit 100 in Warm Springs.

A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for Saturday that includes portions of Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties as highs will reach the upper 90s to low 100s in some spots. Please monitor the alert banner at the top of the page for more information and updates.

The change back to the will occur on Monday as the high migrates east and a low pressure cold pocket arrives from the Eastern Pacific.  Sunday will see the clouds thickening as the day moves along. After starting out sunny, the afternoon will see partly cloudy skies.

Labor Day will be a mix of clouds and sunshine with more clouds late in the day than in the morning. The chance for rain is very low, but not zero. A stray shower is possible late in the afternoon or evening, but since the air has been so dry, most likely the rain from the passing shower might not even make it to the ground.  Breezy to gusty conditions will be present near the rain, but not very widespread.

Bottom line for Labor Day is; no need to cancel any plans, but keep an eye to the sky as a stray shower or isolated thunderstorm may develop.
