Hot pattern continues today, spotty showers possible Labor Day
The heat has returned to Central Oregon as the mercury in the thermometer will rise into the middle and upper 90s both today and Sunday. There is a Heat Advisory in place for Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook Counties Saturday and Sunday as the region will be dangerously hot. Highs are likely to reach the upper 90s to low 100s both days, so please prepare properly for the heat over this long holiday weekend.
Today, the area of high pressure will be in just the right position in the atmosphere to provide a persistent flow of very warm to hot air into Central Oregon. This will be coupled with an area of low pressure off the coast that will assist in the heating process before cooling us a bit on Monday.
Sunday will be mostly sunny to start, but as the day moves along, expect to see some clouds arrive. In Eastern Oregon there may be a few spotty showers and storms, but I am not expecting the precipitation to drift this far west into our three counties.
Monday, Labor Day, will be “less hot” with highs in the low and middle 80s. The reason for the reduction in heat is the low mentioned above will migrate over Oregon, bringing partly to mostly cloudy skies, cooler air, and a stray shower or isolated storm. The rain will be very spotty and may not even make it to the ground, but the associated cloud cover will inhibit the heating process, so middle to low 80s will be the regional temperature profile Monday.
This is a big holiday weekend for camping and hiking and all sorts of outdoor activities, be mindful of the weather conditions. Today and Sunday will be the hot days, so please be aware of the hot conditions. Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if exercising, wear loose fitting clothes, light colored clothes and a wide brimmed hat. Monday, keep an eye to the sky for possible light rain or an isolated storm.
Enjoy the weekend.
