Hot start to the Labor Day Weekend, stray shower possible Monday

KTVZ

The heat has returned to Central Oregon as the mercury in the thermometer will rise into the middle and upper 90s both Saturday and Sunday. There is a Heat Advisory in place for Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook Counties Saturday and Sunday as the region will be dangerously hot.  We may see Deschutes and Crook Counties added to the Sunday list as well, but any way you slice it, we are going to be hot none the less.

The area of high pressure will be in just the right position in the atmosphere to provide a persistent flow of warmer than normal air into Central Oregon. This will be coupled with an area of low pressure off the coast that will assist in the heating process before cooling us a bit on Monday.

Monday, Labor Day, will be “less hot” with highs in the low and middle 80s. The reason for the reduction in heat is the low mentioned above will migrate over Oregon, bringing cloud cover, cooler air and a stray shower or isolated storm.  The rain will be very spotty and may not even make it to the ground, but the associated cloud cover will inhibit the heating process, so middle to low 80s will be the regional temperature profile Monday.

This is a big holiday weekend for camping and hiking and all sorts of outdoor activities, be mindful of the weather conditions.  Saturday and Sunday be aware of the hot conditions, so stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if exercising.  Monday, keep an eye to the sky for possible light rain or an isolated storm.

Enjoy the weekend.
