Cooler and wetter pattern gives a “fall feel” today and tomorrow
Today’s highs will drop much cooler, into the upper 50s to mid 60s. Lows tonight in the 30s and 40s. Mostly cloudy skies with showers throughout the day. Lows over the next couple of nights will be near or below freezing in La Pine, Sunriver, and Sisters– prep your plants early.
Grab your raincoat and give the kiddos an umbrella for the bus stop because rain will start around 6am and be heaviest for the first couple hours of the morning. Rain will continue throughout the day but be lighter and scattered about. There is a chance of a lingering shower tomorrow morning as well. Central Oregon will see about a quarter of an inch everywhere over the next 24 hours. An isolated thunderstorm isn’t entirely out of the picture, but not incredibly likely.
The cooler and rainy pattern should help to mitigate fire danger and erratic fire behavior. The issue will be the breezier conditions expected over the next few days. However, higher relative humidity and temperatures in the 60s and low 70s until Friday will be better news for firefighters.
Air quality remains unhealthy, especially in Sunriver. The Little Lava Fire burning under 10 miles west of Sunriver has made for hazardous levels. Avoid being outside, wear a mask. The cool and wet weather should help to clear our air some, but with the fires burning so close to the area, expect smoke to linger. Air Quality Advisories are still out.
