Hot again today, warm and windy tomorrow

Temperatures spike into the low 90s for many areas today. Today will be the hottest day of the week with possible record-breaking numbers. I’m forecasting a 93 in Redmond this afternoon and the old record was a 94. It will be a tight race.  

The ridge of high pressure is perfectly centered over Oregon, allowing our temperatures to heat up well above normal today. We will cool a bit heading into th second half of the week.

A cold front and a low pressure system will move into our region tomorrow. With it, cooler temperatures and a chance for rain Wednesday evening into night. The chances aren’t great for any wetting rain, but we could see a light shower late in the day.

The big story is the wind that will accompany the incoming cold front and low pressure. Wednesday will be breezy in the afternoon, with sustained winds of 15-20mph and gusts even more robust.

Dry air moves in behind the front. The combination of the warm temperatures, dry, air, and windy afternoons will present challenges for firefighters. Most of the fires in our region are well contained, and in mop-up operations but the Little Lava Fire and the Flat Top and Firestone Fires still have a few hot spots and will need to be watched closely as these systems could makes things difficult.
