Light rain and gusty winds ending tonight, mild and dry pattern ahead

There will be robust winds into the night that are associated with a cold front that has crossed the region. The winds early in the day were from the southwest, bringing in some mild air, the winds tonight will be from the west, ushering in some cooler conditions.  Although the temps on Thursday will be about 10 – 15 degrees cooler than Tuesday, we will still be above normal. Normal highs for late September are near the low 70s.

Expect to see the mercury in the thermometer stay above normal through the weekend as we will be on the warmer side of the ledger. Some clouds may arrive from time to time, but for the most part we will be mostly sunny and mild into the weekend.

The region could really use some rain as the area has seen well below normal precipitation the past several months.  The Drought Monitor gets released by the Climate Prediction Center on Thursdays and I will be curious to see where we stand. Currently we are listed in the Moderate Drought category.

Over the weekend our weather pattern will change to a cooler regime. Highs on Sunday will be in the low 70s and we should stay in the 70s the rest of the week. Saturday has us in the 80s, but the front that will cool us down may cross the region in the early afternoon, so our cool will begin on Saturday, even though we will be in the 80s early. Winds will pick up Saturday ahead of the front so prepare for a breezy to brisk afternoon.
