Above normal temperatures into the weekend, plenty of sunshine

The cool conditions today have helped in the continuing efforts to suppress any fire activity in the area. The breezy pattern is not very helpful, but reports are indicating some improvement in the suppression of activity.

The cool pattern will yield to some warmer weather as we move into the weekend. A cold front will not progress much past the Cascades tonight and the mercury in the thermometer will rise into the 80° range Friday and Saturday. The winds will be on the breezy side, but not much more than 10 – 15 mph.

Cooler weather arrives on Sunday as a moisture starved front moves through and an area of high pressure in Canada will push cooler air into Oregon for a couple of days. There will not be much chance for any rain this weekend so if you are planning any hikes or bike rides, get out and enjoy.

The weather conditions heat up a bit on Tuesday, reaching the upper 70s and a few low 80s.  This warm up should be a one and done as we dip back into the fall feel for the remainder of the week. Highs on Wednesday may be one of the coolest days in a while, that doesn’t involve rain showers.

Helene is expected to make landfall tonight along the Florida Panhandle as possibly a Cat 3 or 4. The rain has been persistent inland for the past day or so, and the ground is saturated.  So, in addition to the devastation expected during the initial landfall event at the coast, there may be some significant flooding inland as a result of rainfall in the region prior to a tropical event.  Mountains will increase the possibility of flash flooding in the area as the ground is already saturated. Also, widespread power outages may occur as tree root systems are already compromised by the rain the previous day or so, and then the gusty winds and more rain that come with the remnants of Helene.  Not going to be very safe in Georgia, the Carolina's, Tennessee or Kentucky.
