Clouds return this weekend, spotty showers Sunday, rainy Veterans Day

The forecast for the weekend is one of “transition” as we will be going from the 60s Friday to the 40s on Monday.  There is a cold front off the coast that will cross the Beaver State this weekend and provide us with cloud cover, some light rain and mountain snow.  By Monday a more robust front will cross the state and provide us with rainy and colder weather for Veterans Day.

The transition will be slow as the mercury in the thermometer is likely to be near 60 both Saturday and Sunday.  The clouds fill the skies during the day Saturday and we may see a slight chance for rain, but it is probably too dry for the rain to make it to the ground.  That is the “set up” phase of the transition, clouds and moisture first, then rain.

Sunday will be variably cloudy with only a few pockets of sunshine. The chance for rain is not high on Sunday either. Late in the day, past sunset, is when we may see some light rain. The main rain event will be Monday with temps in the 40s so we need to prepare for a cold rain too.

Veterans Day is going to be rainy off and on.  The rain will be fairly light but steady. Snow levels will be above 5000 feet Monday so that means mostly mountain snow. There may be some snow mixed in with the rain at times Monday, but no accumulation in the lower elevations will occur.

More off and on rain into the middle of next week. There is some chatter in the meteorological models about several inches of snow returning to the Cascades Monday and Tuesday.  Too early to commit to that now, but be advised, travel through the passes will be problematic next week regardless of the amount of snow, it will still be slick.
