A wet, wintry pattern all week with heavy mountain snow

KTVZ

Let it snow! Most of our forecast area saw snow fall over the weekend, with areas south of Jefferson County seeing some of it stick to the ground. Be careful driving this morning. Icy, slick roads are likely. The snow this morning will be hard and icy rather than soft and fluffy.

Temperatures today will be in the mid 30s to low 40s. Spotty snow showers are in the forecast for the day. Due to our temperatures being on the cold side, it will be snow and a wintry mix. Snow is less likely for Madras and Warm Springs but a bit of mix could fall today.  Lows tonight will be in the 20s.

There is a low pressure system off our coast that will be impacting us, as well as an atmospheric river bringing in plenty of moisture to fuel and refuel rain and snow throughout the week. We are in for a wash out week– get ready!

A Winter Storm Warning is out for the Cascades and the western parts of Jefferson and Deschutes County due to heavy snowfall expected. It expires tonight at 10pm. The mountains are expected to see upwards of 8 inches by the end the day while lower elevations along the eastern slopes and into Sunriver and La Pine will see 1-3 inches. Most of that snow has already fallen, but a little more will top it off. It is time to get your emergency winter car kit updated and in your trunk.

Tomorrow will be windy. A High Wind Watch is in place for Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday morning. Gusts up to 60mph are possible. Bring in or tie down all those loose object you have in your yard.

I hope you had a great weekend. It will be an active weather week–be safe, drive carefully, and happy Monday.
