Rainy day today, icy roads and patchy fog early
As you step outside to get your day started, be careful not to slip! There will be icy spots on the roads and sidewalks this morning, especially side roads, back roads, and/or neighborhoods. Take it slow this morning.
In addition to ice, patchy dense fog is has developed across the region. Visibility will be very limited at times and could drop quickly, so make sure to keep your headlights on and drive safely. A Special Weather Statement was released this morning for this fog along 97 from the top of Jefferson County into Bend, including Prineville. It expires at 8am.
Rain will begin today before noon and be widespread and persistent. You can expect it to be falling for the entire day. Rain will fall with an incoming warm front. So, with the mild air moving in, precipitation will be limited to rain. We should accumulate about a half of an inch by the end of the day today.
Highs today will be in the low to mid 40s and lows tonight in the 20s and 30s.
A cold front will swing behind the warm front by tomorrow morning, which could trigger some freezing rain in areas in Jefferson County and the eastern slopes, like Sisters. Better chances are to our north.
There is a Winter Weather Advisory for the eastern slopes and for areas south of Bend beginning at 7pm tonight until Friday evening. This is due to icy, slick roads developing from freezing rain and a wintry mix. Be careful.
Rain and a wintry mix will fall tomorrow, becoming spotty in the afternoon and evening. We should see some rain and snow again on Saturday before we begin to clear out on Sunday. Drier conditions are expected next week.
Happy Thursday! Have a great day.
