A Winter Weather Advisory has replaced the Winter Storm Watch for the eastern slopes and areas south of Bend. A Winter Storm Warning was released for the west face of the Cascades, heading into the Valley. Travel will be dangerous at times due to heavy mountain snow and gusty winds blowing snow and reducing visibility. Drive safely and bring your winter emergency car kit.

Locally, icy and slippery roads will be the concern for the weekend. Winter weather begins this morning. The system is coming in pretty wet, rather than wintry. Cloud cover and a warmer, southerly flow of air has kept our overnight lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s, which isn’t exactly conducive for snow.

Highs today will be in the upper 40s, and may even tip into the low 50s for some.

Rain is struggling to make it to the ground this morning, but as the air becomes more saturated, we should see some better precipitation. Rain will fall steadily through the morning but taper of through the afternoon.

A cold front is expected to pass through tonight which will drop our temperatures and our snow levels. Most of our weekend snow will fall overnight tonight into Saturday morning.

Anywhere from 2-5” in southern Deschutes and along the eastern slopes is possible. Bendites could see a light dusting when they wake up Saturday, but it won’t exactly be enough to make a snowman. By the end of the weekend, the Cascades should see between 1-2’. It’ll be a busy weekend at Mt. Bachelor!

Happy Friday! Plan for winter weather the through the weekend and into next week. Have a great weekend and stay safe!
