Warm, dry, and breezy start to the week will enhance fire danger
Temperatures today will reach the mid 70s to low 80s under mostly sunny to party cloudy skies. Winds will get breezy this afternoon, gusting around 20-25mph but could reach near 30mph at times.
Central Oregon will stay dry today but there is a chance for showers and an isolated storm or two this afternoon in the eastern mountains. Any lightning produced will raise wildfire concerns.
Many of the fires around our region have either been extinguished or growth has slowed and firefighters have been able to put up good containment lines around them. However, due to the warm, dry, and breezy conditions today, we will see some high fire danger for any new or active fires.
Temperatures and conditions stay consistent for the majority of the work week. Things will change as we head into the weekend and a new system rolls in. Temperatures are expected to make a drastic drop back into the 60s and rain will return late Friday or early Saturday.
The first day of Summer will be Friday, June 20th. Although conditions have already been feeling like summer for the last couple weeks, the Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year and the first official day of astronomical summer. We’ll enter the new season feeling more like mid-spring than summer–Mother Nature is funny like that.
Happy Monday and have a great start to your week!
