String of hot days ahead, starting today

Bend, OR (KTVZ).  A string of hot days begins today and will linger into the middle of next week. Highs across Central Oregon will top out in the middle 90s today with more 90-degree weather on the way through at least Wednesday.

There will be a building ridge of high pressure off the coast that is likely to remain in place through the middle of next week.  The normal high temperature for mid-July is around the low to middle 80s, but we will be looking at middle to upper 90s today.

Plenty of sunshine will dry out the region and our fire danger will increase as the weekend moves along. Next week we should be concerned about wildfire activity as we maintain this persistent pattern of dry and hot weather conditions. All of Central Oregon will be dealing with well above normal temperatures.

Remember, if you are outside enjoying beautiful Central Oregon or beyond, stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if you are exerting yourself a bit. Light colored clothes reflect the solar energy best and keep you slightly cooler.

Last July was very hot, with a string of 21 days in the 90s, from July 4th to July 24th 2024. During that time, we hit the 100-degree mark 5 times.  We are no strangers to the heat, but it does not make it any less dangerous. Never leave kids or pets in your vehicles, not even for a few minutes.

Please stay safe and have fun.
