Feeling the heat this weekend!
We are kicking off a stretch of hot days which will linger into the middle of next week. The ongoing heat is being driven by a ridge of high pressure building off the coast.
Afternoon highs topped out in the mid 90s today, but the peak of the heat is expected to peak tomorrow.
We will cool to the 50s and 60s overnight.
Temperatures are running above average for mid-July, when highs typically reach the low to mid 80s.
You may remember last July was very hot, with a string of 21 days in the 90s, from July 4th to July 24th 2024. During that time, we hit the 100-degree mark 5 times.
Fire danger increases this weekend as the sunshine dries out the region. Our main concern is wildfire activity as we maintain this dry and hot pattern.
Just because Central Oregon isn’t under a heat alert doesn’t mean conditions aren’t dangerous. There are ways to enjoy it safely. Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if you are exerting yourself a bit.
Enjoy your weekend!
