LOCAL ALERT WEATHER DAYS ISSUED: Thunderstorms and high fire danger

Bend, OR (KTVZ) -

This afternoon will be day two out of a string of stormy days. We’re expected to see storms through at least Thursday. Storm chances drop a bit on Friday, but the potential is still there.

We’ve rolled out a few Local Alert Weather days for the active weather pattern. Alert Days have been issued for today through Thursday due to the chance for thunderstorms bringing about high fire danger. We are under the “general risk” category by the Storm Prediction Center these days.

Storms today will be a little less intense than mid-week storms. Look for isolated storms to pop up in the heat of the day. Higher elevation areas like southern Deschutes and eastern Crook County have better chances at storms this afternoon, but everyone should stay weather aware.

Abundant lightning and strong, gusty winds near storms will create a high fire threat. A Red Flag Warning is active for Central Oregon and surrounding areas today. Keep an eye out for any potential new fires.

Oregon’s 2025 fire season has been relatively quiet compared to recent years but this week has the potential to turn the tide.

Wednesday and Thursday will have the most widespread impact and even the chance for a few stronger cells to develop. These are days you might want to reconsider your hiking plans.

Have a safe and happy Tuesday. Remember, if thunder roars, go indoors.
