Temperatures peak today, extreme heat continues tomorrow

Bend, OR (KTVZ) -

We’ve issued a Local Alert Weather Day for today and tomorrow as temperatures are reaching the mid to upper 90s and into the triple digits. Temperatures peak today with many areas reaching 100+. An Extreme Heat Warning is active for the lower elevations of Central Oregon until 10pm Tuesday night.

Make sure you’re finding ways to stay cool throughout the afternoon, drinking plenty of water, taking frequent breaks, and not leaving any pets or children in your car. Extreme heat can be very dangerous.

Little relief is expected overnight for the next few nights. Lows will only bottom out in the 50s and 60s.

By Wednesday, although temperatures will still be toasty, they won't be nearly as hot. The strong high pressure that’s brought the triple digits will begin to break down and temperatures will begin to cool. Plan for highs in the 80s and 90s on Wednesday and near normal by Thursday. Winds will increase as this happens.

The second half of the week is quiet and comfortable. Dry conditions will persist until the weekend when storm chances return.

Have a happy Monday and stay safe!
