Hot Labor Day weekend, Air Quality Alert in place

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) - We’re in for a hot and dry Labor Day weekend across Central Oregon.

Highs should reach the low 90s today, though smoke will limit sunshine and air quality. This isn’t just a one day heat spike, the hot pattern continues through early next week. 

Deschutes County remains under an Air Quality Alert until further notice due to smoke from the Emigrant Fire. 

The fire is burning on the border between Douglas and Lane Counties. It’s fueled by dead trees and leftover debris from the 2009 Tumblebug Fire, almost in the same spot. It’s creating a lot of smoke due to quickly burning dry fuels. 

Overnight lows will drop to the 40s and 50s.

Tomorrow brings more of the same, with highs back in the upper 80s to low 90s. As we wrap up the last day of August, meteorological summer comes to a close.

Labor Day Monday will be hot, with smoke likely affecting skies and air quality. Normally, early September highs run in the upper 70s to low 80s, so we’re starting meteorological fall on a warmer-than-normal note.

The heat continues Tuesday through Thursday, with just a slight chance for isolated thunderstorms midweek.
