Above normal temperatures for the first part of September

Bend, OR (KTVZ) -

September 1st marks the first day of meteorological fall! Meteorological seasons are created based on the average temperatures and are used to make data/record keeping easier. This differs from astronomical autumn, which is the official start of the season. This occurs on the autumnal equinox, which happens on September 22nd this year.

Normal temperatures for this time of year are in the upper 70s and low 80s. We will be topping out in the low to mid 90s for the next few days, putting us 10-15 degrees above normal. We should cool off for the upcoming weekend.

An Air Quality Alert remains active for Deschutes County until at least 11am Tuesday. You can plan for moderate to unhealthy air quality across the region today.

If you have outdoor Labor Day plans, make sure you’re staying safe from the smoke and heat.

There are a few opportunities for thunderstorms this week. Mountain storms are possible tomorrow, but the next best chance for Central Oregon will be this upcoming weekend.

Have a wonderful Monday and a happy Labor Day holiday!
