Short lived dry pattern, rain expected to return Sunday

(KTVZ, Bend Ore.) Since Thursday, September 4th Central Oregon has seen rain. Not all area got rain on all days, but rain did fall on one in one of our counties each of the last eight days. That ends today.

The rainy pattern was persistent and did provide the area with some good soaking rains. It also provided the area with thunderstorms that started a number of new wildfires.  The fires are being well handled as always, but there are still some smoking in the region.

The Foley Ridge Fire in Lane County is less than 500 acres, but is pushing out a good deal of smoke. The air quality readings today have been moderate, but some areas have seen pockets of smoke settle into, or drain into some locations.

The weather today will be pleasant and dry. If you like temperatures in the middle and upper 70s, today is your day.  Don’t get too used to the sunshine and dry weather, Sunday will be much cooler and wet.

A weak ridge of high pressure impacts the area today and Saturday as we stay dry.

Saturday will be mostly sunny to start then by later in the day we will see clouds move into the area. The mercury in the thermometer will cross the 80-degree mark by early afternoon even with the clouds moving in as the day moves along.

Sunday will start out with some rain showers before or near sunrise. This will be the preamble to what we can expect the rest of the day.  A cold front will cross the region in the afternoon and we will only reach the middle to upper 60s.  Rain will be off and on into the night before tapering off after midnight.

Monday will start with some cloud cover and mist, but should dry out quickly. The temperature readings will only top out in the low 70s after the rainy Sunday.

Tuesday will be warmer with highs in the low 80s followed by another day of low 80 readings on Wednesday. Cloudy conditions return Wednesday as well, but no rain is expected in Central Oregon.

Please, Stay safe.
