Summer closing out on the warm side

(KTVZ, Bend Ore.)  The last weekend of summer 2025 is this weekend as the Autumnal Equinox occurs on Monday at 11:19 local time.  Temperatures are expected to stay in the 80s through Saturday with a slight chance for some rain on Sunday.

Thursday will be sunny and warm with highs in the low 80s as the ridge of high pressure keeps the area warmer than normal. This ridge has been in place all week and will maintain a grip on the Pacific Northwest through the weekend.

Friday will be similar to Thursday with a few more clouds. Highs will be in the mid-80s and a light breeze from time to time is likely.  This should be the peak heating day of the week as the ridge begins to shift east and open the door for cooler air.

Don’t expect the cooler air to arrive quickly, the ridge is huge and we will be in the 80s Saturday as well. Some clouds arrive later in the day but we still manage to top out in the low 80s.

Sunday is the first day since last Sunday with a chance of rain. A cold front approaches the coast late Saturday and provide rain to the Valley Sunday. The rain is not going to be all that robust as it migrates over the Cascades.  A few stray showers will arrive late in the day, so if you have plans Sunday, this will in no way be a washout. Due to the cloud cover and spotty showers, the highs on Sunday will be in the middle 70s.

Monday will be back on the dry side with highs in the low 80s once again. The first day of Fall will feel more like summer. Showers and a few storms may arrive on Tuesday to cool the area back to the 70s.

Enjoy the warm and dry weather because Fall is almost here and there are some indications in the long range models that we may be fairly rainy next week.  But that forecast is still well off in the future and more than likely will change.
