Clear, breezy and dry pattern for one more day, cold rain this weekend

(KTVZ, Bend Ore.) Mild and dry pattern expected to change to a much cooler and wetter scenario into the weekend.  Today will see the mercury in the thermometer rise into the 70s again, with sunny skies and gusty winds at times. This will linger one more day as Wednesday will be dry and mild as well.  Clouds are possible late in the day ahead of the regime change that will begin Thursday.

Thursday will be the transition day with highs in the low 60s and a mix of clouds and sunshine. Some light rain may arrive before sunrise, but probably will not make it to the ground.  This transition will see a scenario where rain and mountain snow are likely into the weekend.

An area of low pressure that will drive down the coast from the Gulf of Alaska late Thursday and linger off the Oregon coast into Friday. The result will be the reason for the chance of rain and mountain snow over the weekend.

Friday will be mostly cloudy and there is a good chance for rainy weather. Highs in the 60s will allow the moisture to stay as rain over the high desert, but some rain and snow will mix together at higher elevations of the Cascades.

Saturday will be cloudy and much cooler with highs only reaching the middle to low 50s.  This will be accompanied by periods of rain and high elevation snow.  Sunday will follow with more rain and snow, but just not as widespread.

Monday looks to be the messy day with a wintry mix to kick off the day and a mix of rain and snow and sleet. Prepare for some slick travel Monday morning and into the early afternoon.

As always, this forecast is going to be fine tuned and adjusted as we get closer to the event.
