Local Alert Day Monday; cold and cloudy with mountain snow and an early morning wintry mix

(KTVZ, Bend Ore.) Cloudy and chilly pattern has taken over the region as a mix of rain and mountain snow will arrive late this evening and linger overnight. This wet mix of rain and snow will impact the morning commute from Lava Butte south to La Pine as well as Sisters making roads slick.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for portions of Deschutes and Jefferson Counties until 1 pm Monday.

A Local Alert Weather Day has been issued for Monday as we want to highlight the potential for inconvenient weather.

The snow level is expected to be around 4500 – 5000 feet so that will impact the mountain passes. The snow will be able to accumulate on grassy areas, and as snow/slush mix is likely on the highest points of the passes. Santiam Pass will be impacted along with the road to Mt. Bachelor, Century Drive, close to the resort.

La Pine, Sisters and Sunriver are include in the Advisory, so there may be a mix of rain and snow overnight and through the morning.  Allow extra time to get to your early morning destinations Monday.

The snow and rain mix will likely linger past sunrise and then change to all rain along 97 by mid-morning south of Lava Butte.  The cold rain will then taper off as the afternoon arrives under mostly to partly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the 40s Monday, as the cold pocket of air remains overhead.

Tuesday will be slightly warmer as highs will reach the low 50s. The skies will be party cloudy and the solar energy will help to melt most of the snow that may have accumulate in some spots during the event Monday.

Wednesday will see the temperatures rise to the upper 50s and low 60s as the area gets ready for a chilly and dry pattern.

Thursday and Friday will see the area hit the low to middle sixties under partly cloudy skies.

Next weekend will be dry to start but the long range forecast will bring back some rain on Sunday.
