Near record warmth this week, along with poor air quality

Bend, Ore (KTVZ)— An Air Stagnation Advisory is in place this week as the region will see light winds and high pressure. The result the high pressure is the air sinking under the ridge places a lid on the region trapping the smoke and particulates that get generated this time of year. Agricultural and pile burns contribute to the pollution as well as chimney smoke. Air quality issues will be a problem this week.
The other issue is the near record warmth to kick off the week. This is not a bad thing for some as the milder air allows our heating bills to be less. Those that do like to stroll in the sunshine and middle to upper 50s are excited. Those that enjoy the winter sports like snow riding are very disappointed.
The record high for the 13th and the 14th of January in Bend is 59 both days. That is what I am forecasting for those days.
Normal high temperatures for this time of year are the low 40s so the next couple of days will see well above normal readings.
Thursday will be slightly cooler but still in the 50s, maintaining the above normal scenario. In fact, highs will be in the upper 40s to low 50s through the weekend and into next week.
Enjoy the mild conditions this week, and if you like the colder and snowy weather, we may see a change late next week.
Please, Stay safe.
