Fog lingers at lower elevations today, overall dry and sunny this weekend
Bend, Ore (KTVZ)— There is a layer of fog trapped at the surface in a good portion of the region, with light winds and high-pressure overhead; the fog should remain most of the day. As a result, the temperatures in the area will be well below forecasted levels.
Saturday will be a warm day for mid-January as the mercury in the thermometer is expected to hit the low 50s. The normal high for this time of year is around 43° so we are well above normal. We have been in a persistent pattern of warmer than normal weather and this weekend will be no different. In fact, next week will be more of the same.
A massive ridge of high-pressure is maintain a presence over the western half of the North American continent, including Western Canada. This will be able to warm the region into the 50s under mostly sunny skies for the next several days.
Sunday will see high temperatures in the upper 40s as there will a slight cool down. The skies will remain sunny with light winds. The Air Stagnation Advisory is in effect until further notice as the ridge remains.
Monday sees a return to the 50s for highs as little movement in the ridge as we start the new work week. The ridge does begin to move east, away from the coast by Tuesday which will allow the temperatures to rise to near 60° Tuesday afternoon.
The record of 64° for January 20th set in 1994 should not be challenged, but it will be mild nonetheless.
Wednesday will be slightly cooler as the ridge begins to break down. Highs in the upper 40s to low 50s are expected the rest of the week under partly sunny skies.
