Foggy start keeps temps down slightly, rain expected Sunday

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – After a record-breaking day Wednesday the mild pattern continues but the numbers should not break any records today. Fog returned to portions of the Tri-Counties after midnight and has lingered into the early afternoon. This will keep the temperature readings down today in the areas that still have the fog. The warmth should dissipate the fog in the afternoon, but this time of year, with the low sun angle, we may still see fog through the day trapped in some basins here in the high desert.
The sky conditions above the fog are clear with some high clouds drifting overhead. If you are not in the foggy part of the viewing area, like Lava Butte south to La Pine, you will have temps in the 50s and maybe low 60s today. High pressure is still in complete control of the western United States.

Friday will be another mild day with the area getting bathed in sunshine. Highs will be in the Upper 50s, well above the normal middle 40s for early February. If the pesky fog returns tonight that will inhibit the warming process again, but generally the area will be more spring-like than wintry.
Saturday will be the setup day with the skies filling with clouds in the afternoon ahead of a rainy-day Sunday. Rain will push into Central Oregon overnight Saturday into Sunday to give us a soggy Super Bowl Sunday. The mercury in the thermometer will be in the 50s still as the mild pattern remains.
Resorts in the region will be disappointed with the rain as it will allow the snow to melt even faster than it already has this week.

Monday will start out with some cloud cover and possibly a lingering shower, then partly cloudy skies arrive to close out the afternoon. Previously we had a little light snow in the forecast for Tuesday but that has now been taken out of the prognostication.
Next week the mercury will only be rising into the middle 40s each day, which is normal for this time of year. Mostly dry weather is on the docket for next week.
