Mountain snow arrives, light rain across the high desert all ending by midnight

KTVZ

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – Light rain and mist is defining the day across the high desert as the region will be wet and chilly past midnight. The mountains are getting some snow, but it started out as rain and is now mostly snow above 6500 feet. The accumulations will be decent at the resorts, possible near 5 – 7” totally be midnight so tomorrow will be a great day to get in a few runs.

As for the High Desert, the area is looking at mist and rain to end a bit before midnight and mist and fog may develop. The night air will not be all that cold so roads will be wet with a few areas of black ice, but that will be mostly higher elevations. Travel though mountain passes tonight will be tricky with the slick and possibly icy roads.

Monday will see clearing conditions as the day moves along and the mercury in the thermometer will be in the 40s. That is finally about normal for us as we have been well above most of the past week. If there is a deep layer of fog at the surface, the temperatures will only get into the 30s, but signs are that the mist will dissipate by mid-morning.

Tuesday will be a dry and breezy day and best be defined as “near normal” as far as the conditions are concerned. Slightly above the normal 45 for early February, we will be closer to 47, but that is close enough to normal. There will be a mix of clouds and sunshine with more sun than clouds. The sky will clear overnight and lows in the 20s are expected.

Wednesday will be partly to mostly cloudy as a disturbance south of Central Oregon may provide some light snow early in the day. The light snow will not make it past southern Deschutes and Crook Counties and will be a dusting more than likely.  The chance is very low, so I only have us as variably cloudy as the sky conditions.

Thursday will be dry and slightly milder with highs approaching 50. There will be a mix of clouds and sunshine and a bit of a breeze.

Friday is the setup day once again with the chance for a mix of rain and snow next weekend. Highs will be in the 40s both weekend days so the rain will mix with snow early in the day and again overnight. Not much accumulating snow is in the offing for us.

Please, Stay safe.
