Mountain snow continues, off and on light snow across the high desert

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – The Winter Weather Advisory is in place until later tonight for Deschutes and Jefferson Counties, but the Cascades Advisory is here until early Friday.

Periods of snow will continue through the week across the mountains with 2 – 4” of new powder added each day, possibly a bit more. The resorts are finally getting a sustained run of showers this season. If you are traveling through the passes, the roads will be slick and snow packed. Icy patches may develop overnight when the roads are less traveled.

The High Desert will be chilly in the afternoon and cold overnight. There will be intermittent snow showers crossing the area from time to time. There is a deep trough of low pressure that has provided the cold air, and a few impulses are orbiting around the region squeezing out the moisture.
There will not be much more than an inch of snow across the lower elevations. The timing of the snow is going to be mainly overnight with a few rounds of light snow bursts, like what happened this morning, in the early morning.
There is a better chance for an inch or maybe two of snow to arrive late Wednesday into Thursday across the Tri-Counties that will make the morning commute tricky. This should not be a major snow event, but the roads will be impacted by the last in the series of snow showers.
Thursday will still see some passing snow showers, then a clearing pattern develops for the end of the week and the beginning of the weekend. Highs Thursday will be in the middle 30s and lows in the upper teens.
Friday will be partly cloudy and slightly milder with highs in the upper 30s. Normal for late February is around 46.
We should get into the 40s Saturday with more sunshine than clouds, but it will be breezy.
Sunday will have us in the upper 40s with some clouds late and a passing shower of cold rain.
Monday may be an active day with rain off and on and highs in the middle 40s.
Please, Stay safe.
