Off and on rain and mountain snow this week, Winter Weather Advisory Wednesday

KTVZ

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Wednesday. This is for the Cascades only as lower elevations will see a wintry mix of rain and snow. The snow level will be above 4500 feet, meaning Santiam Pass and Willamette Pass will be impacted. Give plenty of time to get through the mountains as the roads will be slick.

Lower elevations will have to deal with our typical “spring wintry mix” of rain and snow. Little to no accumulation is likely but the roads will be slushy and slick. Overnight lows will generally be above freezing so the chance for icy conditions is very low. Only spots that may see some patchy ice on side streets will be La Pine, Sisters and Sunriver.

Tuesday will be a dry day and the mercury in the thermometer will be near 60. This is another reason that roads will not ice up much across the high desert, nothing is frozen.

A cold front will push through the area on Wednesday which drop our highs from the upper 50s to the upper 40s from Tuesday to Wednesday. The winds will pick up ahead of the front and arrive from the southwest. This may generate winds near 25 – 30 mph at times. Wednesday will be rainy and breezy most of the day as the transition to cooler weather defines the day.

Thursday the winds come generally from the west and the Cascades will be able to squeeze out some much needed snow for the resorts. Not much moisture will get past the ridges so Thursday will be variably cloudy and chilly with highs in the upper 40s.

Warmer weather returns over the weekend as the highs on Friday will be in the 50s then approach 60 both Saturday and Sunday under partly to mostly sunny skies.

Please, Stay safe.
