Above normal temperatures this week, spotty showers possible

KTVZ

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – The sunny and mild start to the day allowed the temperature readings to get quickly into the low 70s early in the afternoon. The record in Bend is 80 set in 1924, and although it will be approached, it will be tough to see an 80-degree day.  But I reserve the right to adjust that prognostication.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of our Tri-Counties under the General Risk Category for thunderstorms. Slight chance, but not zero, so if you are out and about this fine day, stay alert for thunder.  These are garden variety thunderstorms, not potentially severe, but any lighting is dangerous so be mindful of the threat today.

Tuesday will be dry and mild once again as the region is awaiting the arrival of an area of low pressure off the coast. This low is not being steered by the jet stream, so it will meander offshore for a few days before moving inland. When it does move toward the coast, more than likely Wednesday or Thursday, we have a chance for some isolated showers.

Wednesday will be partly cloudy with a slight chance for an isolated shower in southern Deschutes County in the afternoon. Otherwise, a quiet day with highs near 70 in Central Oregon.

Thursday will be dry but once again the chance for a rogue shower or possibly a thunderstorm is not out of the question. Highs again approach 70 under variably cloudy skies. Friday will be similar to Thursday.

Saturday may be the best chance for the region to see some widespread showers as cooler air takes over the region. The wet pattern will be present most of the weekend so keep the rain gear handy.

As always, when we are dealing with what is referred to as a “cut-off low” the timing is always a challenge.

A lovely day across the Cascades, enjoy the rides as we
look at the Nordic Center at Mt. Bachelor

Please, Stay safe.
