A few storms expected today and Friday as rainy pattern lingers through Sunday

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) – A complex weather pattern is developing across the Pacific Northwest as two low pressure systems will impact the region. The end result will be scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms today and Friday with more widespread rain over the weekend. Some of the storms in Southwest Oregon may reach severe levels with gusts near 60 mph. The storms that develop in Central Oregon will generate lightning and some gusty winds, but not as robust as those to our west and southwest.

Today will be the first day in a sequence of four that Central Oregon will see rain. with spotty showers developing from and area of low pressure to our south and west. The low will stay off the coast until it begins to deteriorate Friday and dissipate before getting onshore in Northern California. This feature will spread rain north into Oregon, but we should only see scattered or spotty showers. There is a low but not zero chance that we may hear the rumble of thunder across the region, but few and far between.

After this low, we will call it low number one, dissipates the remaining moisture will continue to linger over the region. On Friday the rain chances increase slightly some thunderstorms are still in the forecast. Storm chances are low, but not zero. Keep the rain gear handy.

Saturday is when the second low arrives from the Gulf of Alaska, passes Oregon on it's way to California, and cools us down and churns up the rain again. Expect temperature readings in the upper 50s as the rain cools the region. The threat of thunderstorm is likely to diminish in the cooler air mass, but a rogue strike is not impossible. The mountains will see a mix of rain and snow as the snow level is still will above 5500 feet.

Sunday will also be rainy and chilly as highs will top out in the low 50s. Chilly rain is the best way to define the day as we continue to deal with cloudy and wet weather. The snow level will drop slightly, but not enough for the high desert to see any frozen precipitation. Mountains may get a few inches of snow, but the mountain passes will be below the snow level.

Monday morning should start out with mostly cloudy skies, but lingering rain is possible. Sunriver, La Pine and Sisters may be the only locations that will see a wintry mix before sunrise, so if you are traveling in those areas, stay alert for slick roads.

Late Monday and through the middle of the week Central Oregon will stay dry. Highs return to the upper 50s and low 60s most of the week.
