A Portland woman who crashed her bike Saturday afternoon on a trail west of Bend was rescued and taken to St. Charles Bend for treatment, officials said.

Deschutes County 911 dispatchers received a report around 3:35 p.m. of an injred cyclist on the Tiddlywinks Trail, part of the Phil’s Trail riding system, said Deputy Aaron Myers, assistant search and rescue coordinator.

The caller said Holly Popenuk, 32, had sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was unable to go any farther, Myers said. She was riding with others, who were familiar with the area and called 911.

Five Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue volunteers, a sheriff’s deputy, a Forest Service law enforcement officer and Bend Fire personnel responded to assist. The units hiked about a half-mile to Popenuk, arriving around 5 p.m.

Popunuk was treated by medics and helped onto a wheeled litter, which was used to bring her to a waiting Bend Fire ambulance that took her to the hospital.
