DCSO releases photos of pickup in cyclist hit-and-run
(Update: 3 surveillance photos released)
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office sought the public’s help Sunday and released surveillance photos in hopes it will help them find the driver of a blue mid-sized pickup who struck and seriously injured a bicyclist on the outskirts of southwest Bend Saturday morning, then left the scene.
Deputies responded around 10:30 a.m. Saturday to the reported hit-and-run vehicle-vs.-bicyclist crash in the area of Skyline Ranch Road and Macalpine Loop, Sgt. William Bailey said.
Information gathered from witnesses indicated a blue mid-sized pickup with a white canopy struck the bicyclist and fled the scene, Bailey said.
The bicyclist, a 61-year-old Bend man, sustained serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, the sergeant added.
Based on video surveillance recovered from the area around the time of the crash, the sheriff’s office released three images Saturday evening. Bailey said the pickup seen in them matches the description of the suspect vehicle, as described by a witness.
The make and model of the pickup was unknown, but reported to be similar in size to a Dodge Dakota, Bailey said.
The pickup last was seen heading north on Skyline Ranch Road, toward Skyliners Road. Bailey said it was reportedly occupied by two people, with the passenger having long hair.
There were no other details available in the description of the pickup or its two occupants.
The sheriff’s office asked anyone with information about the vehicle and suspects to call non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.
